(ECNS) - China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region is bracing for possible heavy rainfall and potential flooding after forecasters warned that large parts of the region could be hit by torrential rain between July 10 and July 14.
According to the Inner Mongolia Meteorological Bureau, heavy to torrential rain is expected across broad areas, including Hohhot, Ulanqab, Xilingol, Chifeng and Hulunbuir. Some parts of southern Chifeng and Tongliao could receive more than 140 millimeters (5.5 inches) of rain.
Meteorological authorities said the upcoming rainfall will overlap with areas that have already received significant precipitation, increasing the risk of flooding, urban waterlogging, landslides and mudslides. Some rivers are already running above warning levels.
The regional water resources department has conducted inspections of reservoirs, dikes, construction projects and flash-flood-prone areas, while emergency authorities have strengthened monitoring, evacuation planning and rescue preparations.
Emergency management official Liu Leilei said authorities have also tested response measures under scenarios involving road, power and communications disruptions.
