(ECNS) -- A Longjing tea tasting event opened by West Lake in Hangzhou, east China's Zhejiang Province, on Thursday, bringing together 10 tea villages from the core production area.
The event features the five historic production areas of West Lake Longjing, Shifeng, Longjing, Yunqi, Hupao and Meijiawu.
Tea masters from the 10 villages demonstrate traditional tea-making techniques, while visitors can sample teas from each village and try new offerings such as cold-brewed Longjing.
An interactive area aimed at younger visitors offers activities including a Longjing tea knowledge quiz, printing of logos representing the core production area and DIY canvas bag making.
Participants can also redeem tea-themed bookmarks, maps and limited-edition tea samples. Folk music and Chinese-style song performances are also held on site.
The event also highlights the history and characteristics of the production area. The core production zone of West Lake Longjing is located within the West Lake Scenic Area.
A cultural exhibition area showcases the differences in flavor among teas from Shifeng, Longjing, Yunqi, Hupao and Meijiawu. Using tea samples, soil specimens and traditional tea-making tools, the exhibition explains tea varieties, picking standards, hand-frying techniques, as well as tea storage and brewing methods.
The event runs through Sunday.
