(ECNS) -- China’s urban rail transit recorded 2.94 billion passenger trips in August, the Ministry of Transport said.
Fifty-four cities operated 348 lines spanning 11,888.5 kilometers, with 3.84 million train departures and 1.75 billion gate entries. Average daily trips fell slightly month on month but rose 2.1 percent year on year.
Metro and light rail systems in 43 cities logged 2.84 billion trips, while monorail, maglev and suburban rapid transit lines in 18 cities carried 88.28 million passengers. Tram and automated guideway transit lines in 19 cities handled 10.71 million trips.
In August, 23.2 kilometers of new lines were put into service, including Phase-1 of Changchun Rail Transit Line 7 as the sole newly opened route.
