'Meet China' film program brings Chinese cinema, cultural exchanges to Paris

(ECNS) -- Chinese filmmakers and cultural leaders met with European directors and local audiences on Tuesday as the 8th China-EU Film Festival’s "Meet China" program hosted a series of screenings and panel discussions. 

Following events in Brussels, the Paris program screened six Chinese works, exploring different aspects of everyday life in China.

Xie Tian, executive deputy publisher of The European Times, said the Paris event provided an opportunity for people from different cultural backgrounds to observe and understand China through film.

During panel discussions following the screenings, industry professionals examined cross-cultural collaboration, translation, and international storytelling.

Hugo Torsten, an independent production manager and executive producer, noted that cross-cultural filmmaking requires creators to establish shared working methods while maintaining distinct perspectives.

Bernards Alens Zako, a cultural and heritage consultant and former head of the culture sector at UNESCO, said film, music and other visual elements can help convey emotions across cultural boundaries.

Founded in Brussels in 2015, the China-EU Film Festival has organized Chinese film screenings, professional discussions and youth exchanges in Europe, providing a platform for filmmakers and audiences from China and Europe to engage with each other.
