(ECNS) -- Tianjin officials unveiled an integrated environmental protection framework Tuesday spanning from northern mountain peaks to coastal waters, setting target metrics for the city's 15th Five-Year Plan (2026–2030).
The municipality aims to raise its combined water and green space coverage ratio to 67% by the end of 2030, while boosting forest coverage in primary control zones to 29%, Liu Jie, deputy director of the Tianjin Municipal Bureau of Planning and Natural Resources, announced at a news conference.
As part of the regional integration strategy, Tianjin will partner with Beijing on joint restoration projects extending from the southern Yanshan Mountains to the Bohai Bay coastline. State authorities are also finalizing a comprehensive reorganization of Tianjin's protected natural areas into a unified system of reserves and parks.
To safeguard local wildlife, Tianjin is creating a cross-border migratory bird protection network with Beijing and Hebei province.
The initiative will crack down on illegal trapping and trading while restoring key stopovers along avian migration corridors to turn the municipality into a birdwatching destination.
The city is also deploying advanced technology to mitigate natural hazards.
Officials announced the "Transparent Tianjin" platform—a smart geological big data system designed to identify and resolve ground risks—alongside an integrated "air-space-shore-sea" network for early marine disaster detection and forest fire prevention.
