(ECNS) -- The 10th China Opera Culture Week opened Tuesday at Beijing Garden Expo Park, pairing cross-generational performers with artificial intelligence, including a digital co-host and AI-driven robots.
The opening program brought together opera artists of different generations, from renowned performers to young students and child actors. An opera fan from Cameroon, Sime Nkem’eni Darrin, also performed an excerpt from the Henan Opera.
The event has also introduced opera activities for international students, including facial makeup workshops and live performances, offering them a closer look at traditional Chinese opera.
Technology is another feature of this year's event. An AI digital host named "Xibao" co-hosted the opening ceremony, while embodied robots performed traditional opera movements alongside human actors.
Organizers also launched "Ximai," an AI agent created with the National Academy of Chinese Theatre Arts to digitally collect and organize opera resources from the past decade. Interactive terminals equipped with AI, robots, and autonomous vehicles allow visitors to explore opera history and practice traditional movements.
A nationwide opera city program is also being held, with Beijing's Fengtai District as the main venue and 10 other cities and regions hosting sub-venues.
Running through Oct. 5, the week features stage performances, amateur competitions, and academic discussions. Ten award-winning national-level productions will be staged, while more than 1,000 fans of various ages and genres have registered for the amateur contest.
