(ECNS) -- China Marrow Donor Program (CMDP), a nonprofit organization that runs the national bank of donors and volunteers, has recorded more than 24,000 unrelated hematopoietic stem cell donations.
It took more than 20 years for the registry to reach its first 10,000 donations, while the latest 1,000 donations were completed in just 112 days, reflecting faster donor matching and more efficient donation procedures.
With a network linking blood donation, donor registration and stem cell donation, CMPD works with health authorities and blood centers to recruit potential donors and provide services including HLA matching, donation coordination and follow-up care.
The program currently has registered nearly 3.79 million voluntary donors, including 441 donations to 35 countries and regions overseas.
In March 2026, CMPD received full accreditation from the World Marrow Donor Association, a step toward international standards for China’s unrelated-donor stem cell donation program.
