(ECNS) -- The sum in dispute for arbitration cases nationwide hit 1.4393 trillion yuan ($214.6 billion) in 2025, a year-on-year rise of 18.7%. This marks the third straight year the figure has topped 1 trillion yuan, according to a report released Thursday by the China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission (CIETAC) in Beijing.

China’s 285 arbitration institutions handled 956,000 cases last year, up 24.5% from 2024, according to the Annual Report on International Commercial Arbitration in China (2025-2026).

CIETAC handled 16% of China’s foreign-related arbitration cases in 2025 but accounted for 42% of the total amount in dispute in such cases, reflecting the relatively high value of its cross-border commercial disputes.
