(ECNS) -- The so-called "pulling up the ladder" narrative finds no market in the Global South, a Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson said on Wednesday.
Spokesperson Mao Ning made the remarks at a regular press conference in response to the claims by some foreign media that China only cares about its own development at the expense of other Global South countries.
China never "pulls up the ladder" for any country's development; instead, it strives to build ladders through efforts including the Belt and Road Initiative, technology sharing, and zero tariffs, the spokesperson noted.
"We provide cost-effective industrial equipment and technological products, share experience and technology, and help countries in the Global South reduce the costs of industrial development," Mao said.
"Helping others succeed while achieving our own aspirations is the fundamental value underpinning China's international cooperation," she noted, adding that committed to mutual benefit and common development, China will remain a reliable partner of Global South countries and contribute to the revitalization of the Global South through its own development.
