(ECNS) -- The Chinese mainland remains the best destination for Taiwan business people and enterprises, a fertile ground for innovation and growth, and a reliable bulwark against risks, a spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council said on Wednesday.
Cross-Strait trade volume reached $221.8 billion in the January-July period this year, a year-on-year increase of 26.5%. The Chinese mainland's exports to Taiwan stood at $62.17 billion, up 31.6% year-on-year, while imports from Taiwan amounted to $159.63 billion, rising 24.7% year-on-year, spokesperson Chen Binhua noted.
The figures fully demonstrate the close economic ties, solid foundation of common interests, and robust and resilient industrial and supply chains across the Taiwan Strait, Chen said.
"We have effectively responded to external challenges, such as geopolitical conflicts and trade frictions, while maintaining an overall steady trajectory of development toward a higher-quality and more advanced stage," the spokesperson said, adding that the Chinese economy, with its strong vitality and resilience, has provided robust momentum and valuable certainty for the global economy while creating new opportunities and greater space for cross-Strait economic cooperation and integrated development.
The smear campaigns and doomsaying by the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities have proven futile and will continue to be so, Chen added.
