Giant pandas Ping Ping and Fu Shuang arrive in Atlanta for 10-year stay

(ECNS) -- Giant pandas Ping Ping and Fu Shuang arrived in Atlanta on a chartered flight on Sunday, beginning their 10-year residency in the United States.

Male panda Ping Ping and female panda Fu Shuang were born in March and October 2020, respectively, in Chengdu, southwest China’s Sichuan Province.

Chinese veterinarians and caretakers have arrived in Atlanta in advance to prepare for the pandas' arrival and support their life in quarantine, training and adjustment to the new environment, according to Xinhua.

Zoo Atlanta's giant panda conservation partnership with China dates back to 1999 with the arrival of Lun Lun and Yang Yang, who successfully raised seven cubs before returning to China in 2024. Currently, three U.S. zoos host giant pandas: the Smithsonian’s National Zoo in Washington, D.C., the San Diego Zoo, and Zoo Atlanta.
