(ECNS) -- Wang Quanying, the last surviving female Red Army veteran who took part in the Long March, died in a hospital at 12:30 a.m. on Wednesday at the age of 105, according to Hongxing News.

Born in 1921, the same year as the founding of the Communist Party of China, Wang joined the Red Army at 14 and served as a battlefield medic, crossing snow-covered mountains during the Long March.

She later lived quietly in Wenchuan County, southwest China's Sichuan Province, for decades.
