Are Tibetans able to practice their own religion? Are they able to speak and use their own language? Are they able to preserve their own culture alongside Chinese culture? The answers from Jason Smith, an American journalist, –are all "Yes."

Having lived in China for more than a decade and traveled to Xizang in person, he told China News Network in the latest News Lounge that since the Peaceful Liberation of Xizang, local people have become more proficient in Tibetan, and now enjoy freedom of religious belief.

"I think the Western conception of what's happening in Xizang and other minority groups in China is completely erroneous. There's no truth to it whatsoever, and in fact the opposite is usually the case," noted Smith.
