(ECNS) —A soybean field in northeast China's Heilongjiang Province has set a new provincial yield record for large-scale soybean cultivation in cold regions, producing 5.13 metric tons per hectare, according to the research team behind the project.
The 6.67-hectare demonstration field at Farm 856, operated by Beidahuang Group's Mudanjiang branch, was assessed after four years of research by a team from Heilongjiang Bayi Agricultural University.
The field yielded 10.25 metric tons per hectare, more than double the provincial average of 3.9 metric tons per hectare, the team said. The results were achieved through the coordinated use of improved seed varieties, farming techniques, farmland management and agricultural machinery.
The trial demonstrates the potential to increase soybean yields across larger areas under cold-region dryland farming conditions.
