(ECNS) -- China firmly opposes and strongly condemns these negative moves by Japan and has lodged solemn representations and a strong protest with the Japanese side, Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said on Monday.

Mao made the remarks at a regular news conference when asked about Japanese PM Sanae Takaichi's offerings of ritual offering and money offering to Yasukuni Shrine on October 17 and 19, as well as recent visits to Yasukuni Shrine by several Japanese government officials, senior LDP figures and lawmakers.

This year marks the 80th anniversary of the opening of the Tokyo Trials, the spokesperson noted.

"We solemnly demanded that Japan face up to history, reflect on its crimes, stop retrogressive acts on historical issues, and win the trust of its Asian neighbors and the international community through concrete actions," she said.
