(ECNS) -- Chinese smart pet products, from AI-enabled feeders to health-monitoring devices, drew interest from overseas buyers at the 28th Pet Fair Asia, which concluded Sunday at the Shanghai New International Expo Center.
The record-scale event brought together more than 2,600 exhibitors from China and abroad. Buyers from Vietnam and India cited Chinese suppliers’ AI capabilities and rapid product upgrades as reasons for sourcing from China.
At a pet-product factory in Cixi, east China's Zhejiang Province, production lines are turning out thousands of pet dryers a day, with a recent batch bound for the United States. The company said its overseas sales rose more than 55% from a year earlier in the first half, with orders also coming from Europe, Australia and Southeast Asia.
Smart pet devices are also becoming more sophisticated. A feeder developed by a Shanghai company can identify which pet is eating, track how much it consumes and suggest feeding plans. Other products include a smart litter box equipped with a 400x optical microscope to screen for abnormal indicators in pet waste and a smart collar that monitors heart and respiratory rates.
Ningbo Customs said it received export declarations for 2.24 billion yuan ($333.2 million) worth of pet-related products in the first half, up 21.7% from a year earlier.
