Children write Chinese character "Ren" (which means human in English) during the First Writing Ceremony in Xi’an, Northwest China’s Shaanxi province, Mar. 1, 2015. More than 50 school-age children in Han Chinese costumes participated in the traditional ceremony. The First Writing Ceremony, also called the Qi Meng (Enlightenment) Ceremony, was once a very important ceremony for every student before they were admitted to school in ancient China. Teachers usually gave them a red dot on their forehead to open the "wisdom eye". (Photo: China News Service/Zhang Yuan)
