"Trust needs to be based on facts, facts must be verifiable and verification must be based on common standards. We believe that this is an effective model to build trust for the digital era," said Ken Hu, deputy chairman at Huawei Cyber Security Transparency Centre opening ceremony in Brussels Tuesday.

The center is aimed to offer stakeholders like government, technical experts, industry associations and standards organizations a platform to communicate and find solutions to balance out security and development in the digital era.

"The fact is that both the public and private sectors lack a basic common understanding of this issue. As a result, different stakeholders have different expectations, and there is no alignment of responsibilities," Hu commented.

"As a whole, the industry lacks a unified set of technical standards for security, as well as systems for verification. This is complicated by the globalization of the value chain," he said.

5G is more secure than all previous standards, and Huawei has contributed a lot to 5G security standards, the company said at the news conference.

Also, 5G security standards are widely involved and jointly formulated by the industry with more than 50 companies, including Huawei, Nokia as well as Samsung, and more than 100 technical experts.

As for AI, which brings both challenges and opportunities to the world, the company said it has framed a technology framework for comprehensive privacy from three layers: control, unlinkability and security.

Huawei has been working on cybersecurity and privacy protection for many years with similar institutes founded in Britain, Bonn, Dubai, Toronto and Shenzhen.
