China's top judge, top procurator deliver work reports to NPC deputies

The third plenary meeting of the second session of the 13th National People's Congress (NPC) was held on Tuesday at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.

Chinese President Xi Jinping and other Chinese leaders attended the plenary meeting.

NPC deputies have heard work reports of the Supreme People's Court (SPC) and the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP) delivered by Chief Justice Zhou Qiang and Procurator-General Zhang Jun respectively during the meeting.  

Following are highlights of the two work reports:

SPC work report

"A total of 1.429 million suspects were convicted in the first trials of 1.198 million criminal cases in 2018,” according to Chief Justice Zhou Qiang.

"Procuratorial organs across China approved the arrest of 1,056,616 criminal suspects and prosecuted 1,692,846 criminal suspects, down 2.3 percent and 0.8 percent respectively year-on-year," according to Procurator-General Zhang Jun.
