Wang Sanyun, former vice chairman of the Education, Science, Culture and Public Health Committee of the National People's Congress, was sentenced to 12 years in prison on bribery charges on Thursday.
According to a court in Zhengzhou, central China's Henan Province, Wang violated the law during his stints at multiple government and Party organizations from 1993 to 2017, including when he was the deputy Party chief of Guizhou Province, governor of Anhui Province and Party chief of Gansu.
He accepted bribes worth 66.85 million yuan (9.65 million U.S. dollars), according to the court.
Wang was also fined four million yuan and had his illegal gains confiscated.
