(ECNS) -- An international charitable foundation dedicated to cancer prevention and control was established in Hong Kong on Wednesday, with plans to provide 5,000 to 10,000 free cancer screenings for people at higher risk of cancer and share cancer-prevention expertise with Belt and Road partner countries and regions.
The ISOPT Charitable Foundation (ICF) was jointly established by the International Society of Oncology Prevention and Treatments (ISOPT) and the Hong Kong Association for External Friendship. Its launch also marked the start of the Hong Kong Anti-Cancer Campaign and the Belt and Road Project for Cancer Prevention.
Under its Free Cancer Screening Support Programme, eligible Hong Kong residents at higher risk of cancer will receive free screenings for breast, lung, liver and prostate cancers.
Ronald Lam Man-kin, director of health for the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government, said in a video address that Hong Kong could serve as a “super connector” in promoting China’s cancer prevention strategy and global health cooperation.
Lam Shun Chiu, chairman of the foundation, said the foundation aims to raise public awareness of cancer prevention and share Hong Kong’s experience in cancer prevention with Belt and Road partner countries and regions.
