(ECNS) -- The Maerdang Hydropower Station posted a record-high monthly power generation, according to China Energy Investment Corporation Qinghai Branch on Wednesday.
Located at an average altitude of 3,300 meters in Qinghai Province, the station has a total installed capacity of 2.32 million kW and is China’s highest hydropower plant.
Officials said the facility supplies clean power locally and supports the green energy transition in central and eastern China.
Since its first generating unit, Maerdang Hydropower Station has produced a total of 11.6 billion kWh of electricity.
That equals saving roughly 3.52 million metric tons of standard coal and cutting around 13.08 million metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions.
