(ECNS) -- Two villagers, a mother and her daughter, prepared kasai, a traditional Xizang fried pastry, for rescue workers at a temporary shelter in Baqen County in Nagqu, in southwestern China's Xizang Autonomous Region, on Tuesday, days after a magnitude 7.0 earthquake struck the area.
The mother and daughter began kneading dough and heating oil to make the pastries after seeing rescue workers eating instant noodles early in the morning. They then delivered a bucket of freshly fried kasai to the rescue workers.
"I made these fried pastries with my mother, mainly to give the rescue workers something good to eat. They came to our tent this morning to get hot water for their instant noodles. Seeing that they didn't have much else to eat, my mother and I decided to make something delicious for them," said Xirao Wangmu, a resident of Bangyunang Village in Maru Township.
A magnitude 7.0 earthquake struck Baqen County at 10:33 p.m. Oct. 22. Rescue teams rushed to the affected area, while residents moved to temporary shelters, including prefabricated housing units.
