(ECNS) -- Specialty grains and beans from Zhangjiakou, north China's Hebei Province, are reaching overseas markets as local producers improve packaging and develop processed foods. By the end of 2025, the city's specialty agricultural and food products had reached 84 countries and regions, including potato products, fresh vegetables and assorted grains and beans.
At Nihewan Group in Yangyuan County, workers sort and package mung beans for export. The company exports more than 8,000 metric tons of grains annually to over 50 countries and regions. It has moved beyond selling bulk grains in sacks to grading products by size and color, upgrading packaging and developing value-added products such as mung bean-based fermented drinks and organic corn juice.
Buckwheat rice and buckwheat tea from Kangbao County have attracted buyers in Japan and South Korea, while millet from Yu County is exported to the U.S. and South Korea. Local producers are also working with agricultural research institutions to improve seed varieties and standardize cultivation, helping ensure product quality for overseas markets.
