Taiwan Affairs Office praises Jay Chou for embracing identity as a Chinese singer

(ECNS) — Taiwan singer Jay Chou has received praise from the Chinese mainland's Taiwan Affairs Office for embracing the identity of a "Chinese singer" after he shared and liked a video of himself being introduced that way at an event.

At a regular press conference on Wednesday, Zhang Han, spokesperson for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, said that people on both sides of the Taiwan Strait are Chinese.

Taiwan artists' identification with the identity of a "Chinese singer" is a sincere expression of their pride in being Chinese, she said.

Zhang said "Taiwan independence" separatist forces cannot stand to see people on both sides of the Taiwan Strait share close emotional ties and grow closer. They label and attack artists, seeking to use political means to restrict Taiwan e people's legitimate expression. Their intentions are malicious, and their actions are unpopular.
