(ECNS) -- China's combined installed wind and solar power capacity reached 2,010 gigawatts (GW) at the end of September, surpassing the 2,000-GW mark, the National Energy Administration said on Monday.
China added about 170 GW of wind and solar power capacity in the first nine months of 2026. At the end of September, installed solar power capacity totaled 1,310 GW, up 16.5% year on year, while wind power capacity stood at 700 GW, up 20.4%.
Wind and solar power generation totaled 1.9333 trillion kilowatt-hours (kWh) in the first three quarters, up 193.7 billion kWh from a year earlier. This increase accounted for 64% of the growth in China's total electricity consumption during the period.
On the day of peak summer electricity demand, maximum wind and solar power output around noon accounted for more than 40% of the total system load at the time, helping ensure a reliable power supply during the midday peak.
Investment in wind and solar power accounted for about one-third of China's total energy investment in the first nine months, according to the administration.
