(ECNS) -- Zhang Xue, founder of ZXMOTO, offered new graduates annual salaries of up to 150,000 yuan ($21,000) for research and development positions as the company launched a campus recruitment drive at Chongqing University on Monday.
Opening his talk, Zhang said he had turned down invitations from many universities to give speeches because he did not consider himself qualified. "I'm here to advertise job openings," he said.
Videos posted online showed Zhang using slides to outline the salaries and benefits offered to new graduates joining the company. Benefits include six types of social insurance, contributions to a housing provident fund, paid leave and access to an employee canteen.
Graduates of top Chinese universities included in the country's Project 985 or Project 211 programs can expect annual salaries of 120,000 to 150,000 yuan ($16,800-$21,000) for research and development positions and 100,000 to 120,000 yuan for non-R&D positions, plus overtime pay.
"Zhang didn't put on airs. He was very down-to-earth," Yang, a student at Chongqing University, said.
According to Yang, Zhang focused on his own experiences and spoke about the importance of passion. Yang was struck by remarks such as "Let's create something awesome together" and by his emphasis on direct communication within the team: "We've come together to solve problems. If I'm unhappy with you, I'll tell you directly. If you're unhappy with me, you can tell me, too."
