(ECNS) -- Xinglong coffee, a long-established coffee brand from Wanning, south China's Hainan Province, is reaching domestic and overseas markets as local businesses import unroasted coffee beans, process and roast them on the island, and sell the finished products under policies of the Hainan Free Trade Port.

With a history spanning more than 70 years, Xinglong coffee is closely linked to the local community of overseas Chinese returnees. In recent years, Wanning has been integrating coffee cultivation, processing, sales and tourism to expand the industry.

Ye Jian, general manager of Chia Tai (Hainan) Xinglong Coffee Industry Development Co., Ltd., said the company imported unroasted coffee beans from Colombia in 2025, processed and roasted them in Xinglong, and exported the finished products to Australia. It also processes imported beans in Xinglong for sale in domestic markets, including Beijing. Ye said policies under the Hainan Free Trade Port had helped the company reduce costs and expand its markets.

At a Xinglong coffee culture park operated by Chia Tai, traditional processing workshops are combined with modern production facilities. Visitors can learn about coffee-making, observe coffee trees in plantations and take part in a coffee-tree adoption program.

Fu Youxuan, a member of the Party leadership group of the Wanning Municipal Bureau of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, said the city had developed coffee-themed farms, leisure plantations and tourist attractions. It is also promoting tourism experiences that combine retail sales with on-site coffee production, and marketing Xinglong coffee through industry promotion events, cultural exchanges and product showcases.

The industry is also creating jobs for local farmers. Wanning encourages businesses involved in coffee cultivation, processing and sales to hire nearby residents, while exploring ways for village collectives to participate in industry development and share in the returns.
