(ECNS) -- The sixth RISC-V (Reduced Instruction Set Computer Five) China Summit opened at the Shenzhen Convention and Exhibition Center in Shenzhen, south China's Guangdong Province, on Monday.
The event brings together representatives from technology companies, research institutions and open-source communities in China and abroad to discuss the latest advances in artificial intelligence, high-performance computing and the software-hardware ecosystem.
This is the first time the summit's main event has been held in Shenzhen. As a major hub for China's electronic information industry, Shenzhen has a relatively well-developed hardware supply chain, a wide range of end-user applications and an active innovation ecosystem.
RISC-V is an open instruction set architecture for chips. Its open nature allows companies, universities and research institutions to innovate on a common technological foundation.
Dai Lu, chair of RISC-V International, said in a speech that RISC-V has evolved from early architectural exploration into a technology choice for multiple industries, with applications in high-performance computing, the automotive industry, communications and industrial automation. The chair said open collaboration is a key strength of the RISC-V ecosystem, enabling companies and research institutions of varying sizes to participate in technological innovation.
A widely discussed topic at the summit was how to meet growing demand for computing power through architectural innovation and coordination between software and hardware, in addition to improvements in chip performance.
