(ECNS) -- Modern Chinese-style women's clothing is gaining popularity among consumers in Singapore, blending traditional aesthetics with practical designs suited to local conditions.

Chinese fashion brands are increasingly reaching Singaporean consumers through cross-border livestreaming. One brand sold more than 100,000 pieces in a year, while a 14-hour livestream generated 210,000 yuan ($29,500) in sales.

Singapore's hot, humid climate makes heavy traditional hanfu less suitable for daily wear. Instead of replicating traditional designs, Chinese brands have adapted their products with lightweight fabrics such as Tencel and linen.

Designers have also simplified large, intricate embroidery patterns while retaining signature Chinese elements such as frog buttons, stand-up collars and subtle traditional patterns. Streamlined cuts make the clothing suitable for a range of everyday occasions, from commuting to social gatherings, helping challenge the perception that traditional-style Chinese clothing is mainly for festivals and special occasions.

The trend has benefited from Singapore's multicultural environment. The local Chinese community is receptive to Eastern aesthetics, while the growing popularity of Chinese TV dramas and cultural content has attracted younger consumers. Livestream hosts explain fabric textures, the cultural meaning of patterns and styling tips, helping brands connect with overseas buyers and build loyal customers.

The success of modern Chinese-style fashion in Singapore reflects the broader expansion of China's garment industry overseas. Leveraging Hangzhou's mature women's fashion supply chain, brands can quickly collect feedback from overseas consumers and refine designs and fabrics. While traditional Chinese-style exports were once confined to niche markets, modernized designs that balance cultural appeal with practicality are now reaching mainstream consumers abroad.
