(ECNS) -- China’s National Medical Products Administration has approved the world’s first product standard for brain-computer interface devices using artificial intelligence to process brainwave data.

The standard, effective Sept. 1, 2027, sets technical requirements and testing methods for the entire data process, including collection, processing, labeling, storage and access. It aims to resolve problems such as inconsistent dataset quality and nonstandard development procedures.

Officials said brain-computer interface devices must learn from large amounts of brainwave data to train AI algorithms that accurately interpret patients’ intentions, making data quality critical to treatment outcomes and safety.

Approved through an expedited procedure, the standard provides a unified benchmark for brainwave datasets, supports innovation and reaches an internationally advanced level.
