(ECNS) -- China ranked second behind the United States in an assessment of space infrastructure across 48 economies, according to a report released Saturday at the 2026 China International Fair for Trade in Services in Beijing.
The top 10 in the ranking are the United States, China, Japan, Russia, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, India, Italy and the Netherlands.
The assessment examines areas including survival, transportation, communications and energy systems, as well as laws, regulations and dispute-resolution mechanisms. The report placed the United States and China in leading positions in terms of hard infrastructure.
It projected that human space activity will remain concentrated in cislunar space through 2035, while development between Earth and Mars could become a reality after 2040.
The report was jointly released by research institutes affiliated with Peking University, Zhejiang International Studies University, Tsinghua University and The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen, among others.
