(ECNS) -- Chinese commercial space company Chang Guang Satellite Technology Co., Ltd. has completed a 19-satellite constellation for 3D mapping, which the company says is the largest of its kind in the world.
The constellation enables remote-sensing satellites to collect 3D spatial information in addition to conventional 2D imagery.
The system supports single-satellite, dual-satellite and multi-satellite stereo imaging from different angles.
A two-satellite formation can capture a strip up to 1,600 kilometers long in a single imaging operation, while a single stereo imaging session can cover an area of more than 20,000 square kilometers.
Multi-angle imaging can reduce obstructions caused by buildings and terrain, allowing for the creation of more complete 3D models.
The company has developed a range of high-precision 3D data products, including digital surface models, digital elevation models and realistic 3D models.
The data can support urban planning, natural resource surveys, infrastructure monitoring and disaster assessment, particularly in areas that are difficult for drones or ground teams to access.
The company said it plans to further expand the constellation and improve the speed and accuracy of data updates.
