(ECNS) -- Seven out of every 10 sweaters sold worldwide are made in Jiaxing, east China’s Zhejiang Province. Honghe Town alone produces 400 million sweaters annually, exporting them to more than 50 countries and regions, with an annual transaction volume exceeding 20 billion yuan (about $2.98 billion).

In the first quarter of this year, Honghe’s sweater exports jumped 67.02% year on year as local manufacturers strengthened their cost competitiveness.

In August, Honghe unveiled a comprehensive service center for domestic and international sweater trade. In partnership with professional institutions, the center has established five exhibition zones targeting markets in Russia and Central Asia, Europe, Japan and South Korea, the Middle East, and South America.

About 40 million sweaters are exported to South Korea each year, while Honghe is also expanding its presence in markets including Brazil and Germany.

Known as China’s “Sweater Capital,” Puyuan in Jiaxing is leveraging its geographical advantages while focusing on high-end, design-driven knitwear.

In 2025, Puyuan’s knitwear industry recorded a transaction volume of 139.3 billion yuan, surpassing 100 billion yuan for the seventh consecutive year.

The international version of Puyuan’s trading platform went online this year, with more than 5 million sweaters shipped overseas to date. Products exported through the platform include seasonal new arrivals for brands such as Zara, H&M and Mango.

Local enterprises have leveraged Puyuan’s strong industrial cluster to enhance their competitiveness in global markets. Driven by industrial upgrading, Puyuan’s foreign trade exports rose 31.75% year on year to 1.056 billion yuan in the first six months of this year.
