(ECNS) -- Apple's newly appointed chief executive John Ternus has launched his official account on China's social media platform Weibo, amassing over 20,000 followers within hours of his debut.

Ternus joined Weibo late on Tuesday, shortly after succeeding Tim Cook as Apple's CEO. As of Wednesday morning local time, his followers had reached around 24,000, marking a swift reception among Chinese users.

In his first moves on the platform, Ternus followed two key figures, including Cook and Isabel Ge Mahe (Ge Yue), Apple's vice president and managing director of Greater China. He also posted a simple bilingual greeting, saying "Hello" in both English and Chinese to mark his arrival.

Ternus was the head of hardware engineering at Apple before taking over as CEO.
