Fishing season resumes in Bohai and Yellow seas after four-month ban

(ECNS) -- Thousands of fishing vessels set sail Monday as a four-month seasonal ban in China’s Bohai Sea and Yellow Sea ended, marking the start of a new season. 

The moratorium, which began May 1, covered fishing in the Bohai Sea and Yellow Sea areas north of 35 degrees latitude.

Introduced in 1995, the ban aims to protect marine resources.

On Monday, hundreds of boats departed Liaoyu Port in Dalian, Liaoning Province, with fishermen inspecting equipment before heading to sea. Authorities strengthened enforcement during the ban, with the Liaoning Coast Guard conducting patrols and inspections.

With a coastline stretching 2,290 kilometers, Liaoning is known for its high-quality seafood, which will return to markets after the fishing season resumes.
