China expands BeiDou applications in intelligent driving, low-altitude economy

(ECNS) -- China is currently expanding the use of BeiDou spatiotemporal data in fields including intelligent driving, the low-altitude economy and embodied AI, Chen Jun, director of the Department of Land Surveying and Mapping under the Ministry of Natural Resources, said at a ministry press conference on Thursday.

The ministry has integrated data from more than 7,500 satellite-navigation reference stations across the country and is further developing the network to expand its service capabilities.

BeiDou spatiotemporal data are also being applied in transportation, energy, agriculture and meteorology. The ministry is advancing an “AI + spatiotemporal information” initiative and developing industry-specific AI models to improve intelligent sensing, analysis and decision-making. 

Geospatial technologies are also playing a role in disaster response. During the recent mudslide emergency at Gyirong Port in Xizang Autonomous Region, public-service and commercial satellites were mobilized to provide high-resolution imagery from before and after the disaster, helping authorities analyze its causes, support rescue operations and guard against secondary disasters.
