(ECNS) -- In a vegetable greenhouse in Shouguang City, east China's Shandong Province, an AI-powered four-legged robot patrols the crop rows, using its high-definition camera to scan for plant abnormalities.
The robot, named "Xuanji Xingnong · Tianquan," was developed by Weifang Yuntuan Technology Co., Ltd. It is equipped with an agricultural large model that integrates 40 years of local farming experience and insights from over 260 agricultural experts. Using multispectral cameras and high-precision sensors, it can identify early signs of pests and diseases while monitoring temperature, humidity, light and carbon dioxide levels in real time.
"The robot can also control spraying vehicles, fertilization systems, ventilation and roller shutter equipment in a coordinated manner," said Wang Yihong, head of operations at the company. Data is sent back to the backend in real time, and AI generates planting decisions automatically. The robot can replace over 60% of routine inspection tasks typically performed by technicians and reduce fertilizer use by 35%.
At the Jidu Modern Agriculture Co-Prosperity Park, 20 types of soilless cultivation techniques are on display, including NFT hydroponics and substrate cultivation. Vegetables are grown on rotating racks and in vertical towers, with an intelligent system precisely regulating water, fertilizer, temperature and light for year-round production. According to guide Wang Yiming, over 85% of greenhouses in Shouguang are now equipped with IoT devices.
Shouguang has developed seven generations of greenhouses since 1989. The average net profit per hectare is between 30,000 and 45,000 yuan (about $4,150 to $6,230), according to Li Guangju, a senior agronomist at the Shouguang Agriculture and Rural Affairs Bureau. He said many young people have returned to the area to start farming.
