Hainan Airlines resumed its direct service between Beijing and Edinburgh, Scotland, on Friday, marking the return of the seasonal route for this year.

Four flights are available to passengers each week from May 17 to Oct 11.

The airline has increased the length of this seasonal service and the number of flights operated per week compared to last year.

In 2023, flights were scheduled twice weekly between the two cities from June 26 until Oct 8.

This is so far the only direct flight connecting Scotland and China, according to Edinburgh Airport.

Gordon Dewar, chief executive of Edinburgh Airport, emphasized the importance of this route to Edinburgh Airport and the local economy.

He said the return of the direct service will attract more Chinese tourists and businessmen to Scotland, driving the development of the local tourism industry and related sectors.

The route will also provide new convenience for Scottish residents traveling to China, greatly reducing travel time between the two places, he added.

Han Zhi, general manager of Hainan Airlines in the United Kingdom, said the airline will continue to facilitate connectivity between China and the UK and is committed to providing passengers with a safe, comfortable, and efficient flying experience.
