A man operates a set of cables for villagers to cross a valley in Yushan village, Hefeng county in Enshi prefecture, Central China's Hubei province. The wirerope cableway, which is 1,000 meters long and 480 meters above the ground, was built in 1997 to help 196 villagers travel in and out of the village, 150 kilometers away from the county. The only other alternative: it takes a whole day for a villager to make his way out of the remote mountainous village on foot, due to the steep cliffs and deep valleys. The cableway has been in use for 16 years. [Photo:IC]
