Beichan Temple, first built during the Northern Wei period (386-534), is the earliest representative of religious architecture in northwest China's Qinghai province with a history of over 1,800 years. As the second largest hanging temple in China, most of Beichan Temple's structure is built into the rocks and is full of caves and caverns which are adorned with Wei-period paintings and murals.
