Special: Unlock Chinese Cities

Welcome to the Great Bamboo Sea of China. A living, breathing ocean of green. It sits in Anji County, east China's Zhejiang Province. Twenty years ago, the concept of "Lucid Waters and Lush Mountains Are Invaluable Assets" was first proposed here.

Anji, home to nearly one million mu (about 66,667 hectares) of thriving bamboo forest, is dubbed as the hometown of bamboo in China. But Anji isn't just about growing bamboo. It's exploring boldly: What can one stalk of bamboo do?

Anji has nearly 1,000 bamboo-processing companies, with an output approaching 20 billion yuan. Anji's products are exported to the U.S., Vietnam, Japan, the Netherlands, and more.

In 2025, representatives from Anji county, Zhejiang province, shared China's practices on the "Replacing Plastic with Bamboo" initiative at the conference of Strengthening Plastic Pollution Management in Asia and the Pacific, organized by the United Nations Environment Programme.

International experts have visited Anji and praised China’s green development. Patrick Nijs, former Belgian ambassador to China, noted that “the green lifestyle in China is coming up.” Erik Solheim, former executive director of the United Nations Environment Programme, said, "China is now the indispensable nation for everything green in the world."

Today, this single stalk of green bamboo supports a thriving green economy in Anji and contributes China’s wisdom to global sustainable development.
