Squash is one of the sports contested at the ongoing 2025 Chengdu World Games and it has been included in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games. China's Yin Ziyuan, is the youngest member of the home delegation at 13, and she participated in the squash matches in Chengdu. In an interview with CGTN Sports Scene's Mike Fox, Yin shared her goal as a player while her coach Islam Hany shared his thoughts on the development of the sport in China.
Yin began to play squash when she was eight. Her parents run a squash club in east China's Shanghai Municipality and have hired foreign coaches. She has been practicing nearly every day for five years.
Last month, Yin won the Under-13 girls' title at the Asian Junior Squash Championships in South Korea, marking a significant step in her trajectory and a breakthrough for Chinese squash.
Last week, Yin went toe-to-toe against Japanese No. 1 seed Watanabe Satomi in her debut at the Chengdu World Games. Though she lost 3-11, 4-11, 3-11 it didn't shake her confidence or her goal of representing her country at the Olympics in three years.
As the coach of the Chinese national squash team, Islam Hany is glad that China has been investing a lot of effort in seeking young promising talents like Yin. He's also convinced that Chinese players have a bright future for international competitions including the Olympics.
