China celebrates 60th anniversary of establishment of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region

China's top political adviser Wang Yang on Monday congratulated Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region on its achievements over the past 60 years, calling for comprehensive and inclusive development in the region.

Wang, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), made the remarks during a celebration in Nanning to mark the 60th anniversary of establishment of China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.

Guangxi has a strong history of inter-ethnic solidarity, said Wang, when he reviewed the achievements in the past 60 years.

Guangxi's regional GDP has skyrocketed since 1958, he added, saying Guangxi has made huge strides in education, ecology.

One million people have been put out of poverty every year and the poverty rate was cut from 18 percent to 5.7 percent, according to Wang.

In his speech, Wang also stressed that Guangxi should always uphold the leadership of the CPC and the path of socialism with Chinese characteristics, calling for more efforts to realize ethnic unity.

The region's success over the past 60 years is thanks to the central government and the efforts of people of all ethnic groups, as well as the support of the Chinese people, said Wang.
