Beijing expressed strong dissatisfaction at the signing of the National Defense Authorization Act in the U.S., which included negative China-related content.

China has repeatedly stated its stance on the issue and made solemn representation to the United States, Foreign Ministry spokesman Lu Kang said in a statement.

"We urge the U.S. to abandon the Cold War thinking and the zero-sum mindset, and view China and bilateral ties in a correct and objective manner," Lu said.

China demanded that the U.S. should abide by the one-China principle and the three China-U.S. joint communiqués, he said.

The China-related negative measures should not be implemented to avoid damaging China-U.S. relations and bilateral cooperation in key areas, he added.

The country's ministry of commerce also said it had noted the Foreign Investment Risk Review Modernization Act, as part of the National Defense Authorization Act, was signed by U.S. President Donald Trump on Monday. The Chinese side will comprehensively assess the contents, and pay close attention to the impact on Chinese enterprises.
