The country's young people were called upon on Tuesday to unite closely around the Communist Party of China Central Committee with Xi Jinping as the core to strive for national rejuvenation.
Xi, general secretary of the CPC Central Committee and president of China, attended the opening ceremony of the 18th National Congress of the Communist Youth League of China held at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. The ceremony was attended by all seven members of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee.
On behalf of the CPC Central Committee, Wang Huning, a member of the Standing Committee, released the CPC Central Committee's statement at the opening ceremony.
Under the leadership of the CPC Central Committee with Xi as the core, the Communist Youth League has firmly safeguarded the authority of the CPC Central Committee and its unified and centralized leadership, pushed reform of the youth league, and governed the league with strict discipline since its 17th National Congress, Wang said.
Youth League members have integrated their hard work with the hard work of the Party and the people, shown their excellent quality of patriotism, innovation and devotion, and demonstrated their global image of confidence and openness, Wang said.
Xi's important thought on youth work has guided the direction of the Party's youth work in the new era, Wang said, adding that the young people have great responsibility to build a moderately prosperous society and build a modern socialist country.
The young people should remember Xi's words, uphold firm belief, keep increasing their capability, keep working hard, engage in innovation and work hard for fulfilling national rejuvenation, Wang said.
The opening ceremony was attended by more than 1,500 deputies of the Communist Youth League representing more than 81 million league members across the country.
Ten pupils from the Young Pioneers addressed the ceremony to express their resolution of being prepared to strive for the fulfillment of the Chinese dream of national rejuvenation.
The youth league is the organization of youths with progressive ideas under the leadership of the CPC. It acts as the assistant and reserve for the CPC.
