(ECNS) -- Two Chinese nationals died after their speedboat capsized off the coast of Bali, Indonesia, the Chinese Consulate General in Denpasar confirmed Tuesday.
According to local rescue agencies, the incident occurred around 3:00 p.m. local time, when a speedboat traveling from Penida Port to Sanur Port was struck by large waves and capsized near its destination.
A total of 80 people were on board at the time, including 73 foreign tourists, two local passengers, and five crew members. The accident resulted in two fatalities, one person reported missing, and 77 survivors.
Following the accident, rescue teams were immediately dispatched with inflatable boats to carry out search and rescue operations. As of now, the search for the missing individual remains ongoing.
In response to the incident, Chinese consular officials visited the injured in hospital to offer support and are assisting with arrangements for the deceased.
The consulate has issued a reminder to Chinese citizens in Indonesia to stay informed about local sea conditions and exercise caution when traveling by sea.
