(ECNS) - The density of PM 2.5, a key indicator of air pollution, needs to fall 3 percent between Oct. 1 to March 31 next year from the previous average level while the number of days with severely polluted air should also decrease at the same rate, according to a Ministry of Ecology and Environment action plan.
The plan for this autumn and winter covers Beijing, Tianjin and 26 cities in Hebei, Shanxi, Shandong and Henan provinces, all considered sources of north China’s air pollution.
The ministry said air quality in Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei and surrounding areas improved in the first eight months this year but those regions still face polluted air in the coming months. Government departments at various levels are urged to take effective measures on the ground to enhance air quality.
More efforts will be made in supervision, administration and ensuring air quality data is accurate and reliable. Central state-owned enterprises are urged to take the lead in the campaign.
