(ECNS) - Business leaders attending Bloomberg Global Business Forum in New York have called for further efforts to strengthen free trade and economic globalization as protectionism continues to rise.
Michael R. Bloomberg, founder of Bloomberg LP and Bloomberg Philanthropies, said “Multilateralism has brought the world unprecedented peace and prosperity. If we work together and don’t try to destroy it, the future will be very bright.”
British Prime Minister Theresa May said she supported the World Trade Organization to carry out reforms with the times, and also called on the international community to continue maintaining the multilateral trading system represented by the WTO.
Jim Hackett, president and CEO at Ford Motors, said U.S.-China trade tensions had damaged the interests of U.S. companies and metals tariffs had cost $1 billion in profits.
In the view of former U.S. president Bill Clinton, the international community should seek win-win development, engage more in trade rather than arguments, and promote economic globalization.
