China wins 14th consecutive Asian Games women's gymnastics team title

 

(ECNS) -- China won the women's artistic gymnastics team' gold at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games on Wednesday, extending its winning streak in the event to 14 consecutive titles since 1974. 

The Chinese team, comprising Ke Qinqin, Zhang Qingying, Qiu Qiyuan, Zhang Yihan and Du Siyu, scored 166.462 points. Japan and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea took silver and bronze, respectively.

All five Chinese gymnasts were making their Asian Games debuts, after winning the women's team title at the Asian Gymnastics Championships in June.

After a challenging start, the Chinese team settled into the competition and gradually pulled ahead. Team captain Qiu Qiyuan said the squad had prepared for setbacks and remained united despite mistakes. Zhang Qingying said the men's team victory had boosted their confidence and motivation heading into the competition.

China swept both the men's and women's artistic gymnastics team titles at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games.
